Graphic Design - Build vs. Buy?
The Graphic Design of a site is often the first thing people consider when designing a business website or updating their existing website. There are 2 basic approaches that can be taken when it comes to Graphic Design: have a custom website design created by a graphic artist or buy a pre-made website template that's close to what you want and have it customized.
Graphic Design Option #1 - Create a Custom Website Design
This option can often be very rewarding, as it provides you with complete control over the look of your business website. We can provide custom website graphic design or recreate a new graphic design based on your existing company branding. At the same time we can also develop or redesign your company logo, letterhead and other print graphics.
Something to keep in mind that not all graphic artists have experience designing websites. If the designer you are considering doesn't have a lot of website design experience, be prepared for the possibility that it will take longer to finalize a design that your website integrator will be able to work with. Get them both together before any graphic design work is started to make sure your custom website design doesn't need a lot of changes in the late stages of development which would delay things and add to your cost.
Website Design Option #2 - Pre-Made Website Design Template + Customization
There are thousands of existing website page templates available. They range in price from free to several hundred dollars or more.
The majority of website templates fall into a price range between $10-$100, with a lot of very attractive ones available if you're willing to spend the time searching (or let us search for you). These templates tend to be more "polished" in terms of graphic design, layout and features than the free website design templates. Some are sold with just several page layouts and little else, but others include source graphics (Photoshop files) so they are very customizable.
Customization starts with changing the site logo and other graphical elements to match the client's branding. Depending on the client's needs, these customizations could be fairly simple or require an extensive reworking of the template design.
Note: Before purchasing the rights to a template it's a good idea to ask your website developer's opinion. Depending on the format(s) the template is available in and other factors they may advise against purchasing it for a variety of reasons.
